CATN2 Matching Investment Program

  • The purpose of the CATN2 Matching Investment Program (MIP) is to support collaborations between New York State businesses and SUNY Poly faculty that expand applied research capabilities, technology development resources, or operational deployment test beds.  The CATN2 MIP has been designed in alignment with the CATN2’s mission to support systematic progression in technology transitions, workforce development, and business growth for our partners seeking to collaborate and grow in the State.

  • MIP project proposal must clearly describe how the MIP funds will be used and explain how the investment under the MIP will expand or enhance on-site infrastructure and capabilities that will: 

- Identify a distinct technology focus area, commercialization phase (RD&D), market application, and resulting capability by

- Create a sustainable operating model, such as

- Expand upon prior investments in core facility capabilities

- Potential opportunity to launch a focused campaign to address an unmet need or challenge confronted by industry with potential for broad industry participation.

  • MIP projects require a minimum 2:1 private-to- public match.  Private funds can include investments from industry, government, or a not-for-profit entity, and public funds may include CATN2 MIP funding and other NYS funding commitments (e.g. NYSTAR Tech Transfer grant, NYSERDA grants, etc.).

  • A letter(s) of intent to collaborate and commit matching investment by the private entity partner(s) consisting of:

- Cash investment;

- Equipment and infrastructure;

- Operational support; or

- Cash-equivalent (intellectual property, co-location, shared access), among others.

  • Incubators for Collaborating & Leveraging Energy And Nanotechnology

Funded in part through NYSERDA and supported by the New York State Center for Advanced Technology in Nanoelectronics and Nanomaterials (CATN2), iCLEAN serves clean energy, nanotechnology, biotechnology and cyber physical system technology startups and established companies to transition innovation to commercial success by supporting each phase in the research, development and deployment continuum. Leveraging SUNY Polytechnic Institute’s industry-compliant advanced manufacturing facilities, faculty and engineering teams, and a nanotechnology eco-system of over 300 industry partners, iClean offers unmatched incubation support. Over the past seven years, the CATN2’s iCLEAN Incubator has assisted 50+ clean energy companies raise $71,758,214 in private investment, receive $59,488,887 in public investment, and generate $34,187,673 in revenue and continue to sustain 156 jobs in the region.

The iClean Incubator established the New York Business Plan Competition (NYBPC) in 2010 as a venture creation and innovation competition to encourage innovation and entrepreneurship throughout New York’s colleges and universities. Since 2010, more than 2,500 students have participated in the NYBPC, more than 100 businesses have been started, and the NYBPC has seeded over $1M yielding over $20M in additional funding for these companies.


Start-up New York


START-UP NY helps new and expanding businesses through tax-based incentives and innovative academic partnerships. START-UP NY offers new and expanding businesses the opportunity to operate tax-free for 10 years on or near eligible university or college campuses in New York State. Partnering with these schools gives businesses direct access to advanced research laboratories, development resources and experts in key industries.

Northeast Advanced Technology Education Center (NEATEC)


The Northeast Advanced Technological Education Center (NEATEC) is an ATE Regional Center funded by the National Science Foundation NEATEC fulfills the needs of the nanotechnology and semiconductor manufacturing industries in New York State and Western New England by supporting the education and training of technicians. Led by SUNY Polytechnic Institute, the Center represents a collaborative partnership that includes manufacturers, community colleges, regional high schools, Fort Drum military installation, National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and refugee centers.


NEATEC is a Regional Center for Semiconductor and Nanotechnology Education funded by the National Science Foundation to serve as a critical, sustainable resource to create and maintain a skilled technical workforce for the semiconductor and nanotechnology industries in New York State and Western New England.

Through an extensive network of community college, university, and industry partners, NEATEC will identify the essential technician competencies and skills required by such a workforce. NEATEC will develop curricular components and delivery methods to impart those skills to students. NEATEC will also create and disseminate educational materials to support curricula implementation at its community college and high school partners and provide professional development activities for K-12 schools and community college faculty. Lastly, through partner internships, co-ops, shadowing opportunities and outreach activities, NEATEC will educate current and future students regarding technological career pathways and expand the pipeline of K-12 students interested in semiconductor and nanotechnology career options.

The AMP Center is a collaboration between SUNY Polytechnic Institute and SEMI offering open-access to a standard semiconductor manufacturing environment to address all aspects of the facilities ecosystem from tooling hardware, components and sub-systems to information technology, and facility operations.
